Is your post-graduate research spanning the traditional academic boundaries between geology, biology and chemistry? Do you need more training at the interface between your graduate training and your research? Do you want to train at a dynamic Postgraduate Institute, with an international reputation for both research and post-graduate education? Do you want to work in a well-funded, well-equipped institute, with centrally run laboratories designed for research and teaching in biogeochemistry? If so then this Marie-Curie Training Site could be for you! The aim of our training centre is to provide an environment in which fellows are able to acquire and refine cross-disciplinary skills, working with a small, stable team of biologists, geologists and chemists. The institute offers the highest quality-training environment; both research and teaching have independently been judged as 'excellent', with a strong group of enthusiastic academic staff with an impressive commitment to teaching and learning". In the past six months three graduate students have been senior authors in Science and Nature. We have refined a structured teaching programme to permit this integration. You will be assigned to two staff members and a post-graduate 'buddy' who will help you find your feet. You can take introductory courses in chemistry, biochemistry or geology as well as a selection of 20 Advanced Course Modules. Each module is compressed into one or two weeks so that you still have time for your research. For your research you will be given access to a sophisticated computer network, you will be provided with office and bench space for preparative work. All analytical equipment is shared. You book time at a weekly meeting, and have access to all of our analytical laboratories (LC, GC, GC-MS, molecular biology/immunology, racemization, microscopy, inorganic chemistry, petrology).
