Training will be given in the very latest solid state NMR techniques using state of the art hardware. The group at Warwick uses 5 NMR spectrometers equipped with widebore magnets with strengths of 5.6 to 18.8 T (240 - 800 MHz) and has a very wide range of NMR probes with MAS up to 45 kHz and variable temperature capability over the range 4-1200 K. The group encourages the development of a genuinely multinuclear approach. Any project that requires solid state NMR and which can take advantage of fast MAS at high field and/or the application of multiple magnetic fields will be considered. Projects involving less common nuclei for solid state NMR e.g. 1 70,low-gamma nuclei will be particularly welcome. The group has a longstanding interest in the application and development of NMR of quadrupolar nuclei to study both disordered and crystalline materials. Work has spanned solid-state chemistry, materials science, Earth science, condensed matter physics and, most recently, biomolecular solids. Applications from all these areas are welcome. It is expected that students will have undertaken at least one year of their postgraduate training in their home institution. It will be an advantage if there has been some exposure to solid state NMR but this is certainly not a requirement.
