The doctoral training proposed concerns Intelligent Systems. These are agents that act and/or reason rationally within their domain of application, such as software agents or robots. The research focuses on the underlying computational foundations of such systems. These include planning and acting, knowledge representation, reasoning, machine learning, as well as data mining. The training on the foundations of intelligent systems will be complemented by practical experiences with and development of intelligent systems in a wide variety of application areas, including: bio- and chemo informatics, protocols, game-playing and robotics. The Freiburg AI-labs are active in all of the above mentioned research areas and application domains. The training should allow the Marie Curie fellows to obtain a deep knowledge of and experience with the foundations of intelligent systems. This should allow them to develop and apply intelligent systems across a wide range of applications. We therefore solicit applications from doctoral students interested in the foundations of intelligent systems and their application domains. The ideal candidate possesses a university degree in Computer Science or in a related discipline and has a strong interest in research. The Albert-Ludwigs-University is an equal opportunity employer.
