Цел на проекта
Applications are invited for Postgraduate Research Fellowships of 12 months duration, funded by the European Commission under the 'Stays at Marie Curie Training Site' scheme. These will be held in the Molecular Biomarker Group, within the Centre for Environmental Research (Schools of Biology and Chemistry, Physics & Environmental Science, both given highest rating for research) at the University of Sussex, UK. The field of study will be the development and use of molecular biomarkers to assess environmentally induced stress in biota. The student will be trained in molecular marker and functional genomics techniques by a combination of supervised research project and formal courses. The Molecular Biomarker Group comprises the following topics and members: the adaptation to stress in plants (Prof. Tim Flowers, Dr. Sue Hartley); genetic instability and phenotype variation in plants (Prof. Mike Hutchings, Dr. Steve Pearce); radiation-induced (Dr. Penny Jeggo, Dr. Jeanette Rotchell) and chemical-induced DNA damage in organisms (Dr. Jeanette Rotchell. Dr. Liz Hill). Training will be provided in universal techniques: PCR, gene cloning and sequence analysis, molecular genetic markers (eg. AFLP, retrotransposon-based markers), functional genomics strategies (eg. micro arrays), mutation detection, protein analysis. The Fellow will interact with a research group that has regular research seminars and an existing framework of international collaboration. The Fellow should normally have a first degree in biology, environmental science, or related subject area and should be enrolled on a doctoral programme in a European institution outside the UK which would benefit from training in molecular genetic markers. One Fellow per year is expected to be appointed for the years 2002-2005.
