Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellows in Time Critical Data Processing and Time Variable Astrophysics. The Astrophysics Research Institute, Liverpool John Moores University, has two vacancies for Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellows working in the area of timecritical data processing and intelligent agents applied to astrophysical problems. The Fellows will worth in the Liverpool Telescope Development Group of the Institute, where they will be expected to develop software to carry out the following tasks for the Robotic Liverpool Telescope (LT):- Analyze incoming triggers from spacecraft and other ground based facilities and determine a course of action for the telescope.- Rapid and robust pipeline data reduction to determine the properties of targets in near-real time.- Interpret the output of the data pipeline to request follow-up observations with the LT and elsewhere.- Mine remote data archives for data at other wavelengths and epochs. In addition the Fellows will be expected to work with research staff at the Institute on related projects with the LT. These research projects include the optical counterparts of Gamma Ray Burst sources; distant supernovae as probes of cosmology; time critical obsercations of accretion disk systems; pixel microlensing and microlensing searches for planets. The successful applicants will have a strong background in Astrophysical data processing and a research interest in one of the above topics.
