The pneumatic prehensors present several advantages in the manipulation of medium loads : a high power to weight ratio, little pollution and adaptation to hostile environments. They are therefore in the majority in production units. The two main categories of pneumatic prehensors are gripping systems, and aspiration systems, in which a depression is applied by means of a vacuum generator to a sucker". The majority of systems use an "ejector" type (without moving parts) vacuum generator. These, although less efficient, are reliable and considerably cheaper than other systems. Currently, there are two families of ejectors: - Supersonic ejectors that produce a strong depression with a weak aspiration mass flow rate, have been studied for aeronautical applications where the profiled geometric configurations are far from the vacuum prehensile systems manufactured. The first functioning models of supersonic ejectors for the prehesible suckers have so been designed in our team and used for the optimization of industrial systems.- The Coanda ejectors which produce a weak depression but with a strong aspiration mass flow rate, are used in the prehension of porous objects and to transport dispersed materials. The optimization of the functioning of these ejectors requires a very good understanding of the influence of their internal geometry. However at present, we only have at our disposal partial models which must be completed in the framework of the project presented here."
