Цел на проекта
Principal objective: clarify how ongoing changes in Western European welfare states affect the degree of active citizenship, labor market participation, user involvement and social mobilisation achieved on the part of people at the margins of these societies.Sub-goal 1: achieve in-depth, systematic and research based knowledge about current attempts to promote active citizenship in the UK, particularly more active participation from recipients of security benefits and compare this with experiences from the Nordic countries.Sub-goal 2: clarify how policy developments on a supra-national (e.g. EU) and nation state level in area are interrelated.Sub-goal 3: assess the consequences of various forms of active citizenship from the perspective of marginal people.Sub-goal 4: prepare comparisons with other Western European countries in this area. Organization of the visit: the visit will be organized around co-operation about writing drafts of chapters on active citizenship, and data collection about the British experience in the area. The project will be connected to already established collaboration about active citizenship and initiated in the COST A 13, WG 1 on unemployment headed by Professor Jochen Claesen at University. The project will also be connected to two internally related projects about active that already has been granted financial support. The Research Council of Norway will cover the to Dr. Halvorsen and some expenses related to data collection. The project is also connected to a Nordic comparative study that has recently been granted financial support from the Nordic Council Ministers for the period 2002-2004. A Marie Curie Fellowship would enhance increased mobility of younger researchers and contribute to a synergy effect between already existing projects. A fellowship is decisive to meet the extra living expenses for Halvorsen while staying at Stirling University. The Centre for Comparative Research in Social Welfare has already achieved status as Marie Curie training site for doctoral students. A post. doc. fellowship would strengthen this work.
