Накратко на български
Визуалната чувствителност и генетичният ѝ произход се анализират чрез изучаване на епилепсия, предизвикана от светлинни стимули. Това помага за по-доброто разбиране на процесите в човешкия мозък.

Final Activity Report Summary - VISUAL SENSITIVITY (A European wide study on the clinical importance and genetic background of visual sensitivity)
Our multidisciplinary (by neurologists, radiologists, gynaecologists, psychiatrists, physiologists, engineers, bio-medics, research psychologists, GPs, paramedics and lay people) and intersector studies (universities, hospitals and private enterprises) did allow us to learn more about brain processes, in general, and visual sensitive epilepsy, in particular.

Цел на проекта
Epilepsy is one of the biggest health economic burdens in the world, especially within the fields of mental health. In the modern environment (television and computer screens, videogames, TV commercials and high contrast patterns) exposure to visual stimul i is ever growing. In European countries, the prevalence of problems related to visual sensitivity is increasing seriously . Exchange of knowledge and training of (para)medics and lay people, including those that are commercially involved, will improve re cognition of the problems caused, and lead to improved preventive methods .To improve also our basic understanding of the underlying pathophysiology of brain processes the following clinical research projects are proposed:I. a. fMRI and EEG in visually sensitive patients b. Medical genetic studies in collaboration with centers in EU member states, associated states and non-EU countries. c. Influence of hormonal cycles on the visual sensitivity and seizures in women.II. Impact of ne w displays, videogames and other potentially provocative environmental visual stimuli in daily life, with the evaluation of non- pharmacological preventive measures. The results of these studies will greatly improve our understanding of the pathophysiology of brain processes and in general will help understanding other common brain diseases. The results can be directly applied to individuals and disseminated to professionals and lay people in Europe, thus contributing to better knowledge of visual stimulati on problems, prevention and treatment .
