Although the European Union attempts to address humanitarian crises and violent conflicts in a comprehensive manner, there is a prevailing need for consistency, coherence and complementarity. The project 'Humanitarian Crises and Conflict Studies: Bridging the Gap Between European Research, Policy and Practice' (HUMCRICON) aimed to fill this gap, introducing a multi training -site, training 54 Early Stage Researchers, who have learned through: - the scientific events organised both in the framework of combined collaborative research projects and in the network structured training programme. Over 300 (approximately 700 hours) lectures, seminars and workshops have been organised by the network universities in the 8 semesters of the project. - Experience gained by fellows in field trips, participation in international conferences, congresses and workshops (conferences proceedings and posters). - The production and dissemination of scholarly knowledge (joint and individual publications). The research training has focused on three thematic areas: - theories and concepts of humanitarian assistance and conflict prevention; - European approaches to humanitarian intervention, conflict prevention and peace-building; and - humanitarian crises, regional conflicts, and global peace. The training programme has included transnational training for graduate and post-graduate students and dissemination of research results. The multi-site has enhanced European research cooperation as well as the quality of research and training on the subject. Moreover, it has promoted the transfer of knowledge and career development, by bringing together a broad, interdisciplinary and complementary critical mass of expertise in the field of humanitarian action and conflict prevention and resolution. This has included European integration, humanitarian assistance, international relations, foreign and security policy, sociology, anthropology, international law, peace and conflict research, migration, philosophy, history, law, development studies, gender studies, economics, management and communication.
