Изчислителни инструменти и прецизни формули помагат за анализа на данни от ускорители, като например при търсенето на суперсиметрични частици. Те позволяват по-добро разбиране на произхода на масата, тъмната материя и тъмната енергия във Вселената.

Final Activity Report Summary - HEPTOOLS (Tools and Precision Calculations for Physics Discoveries at Colliders)
The HEPTOOLS network, one of the biggest particle-physics phenomenology network projects worldwide, composed by 17 nodes from Europe, US, Russia and Japan, has been able to deliver 643 person-months in 36 contracts of early-stage and experienced researchers, more than 360 joint research publications, more than 1000 researcher-participations in conferences and workshops as well as a training program composed by local courses and many network-wide events. The research work performed within the project is vital for the successful completion of the LHC experiments at CERN. It provides the necessary computational tools and calculations for the efficient analysis of the data, allowing the exploration of matter at its deepest level ever, and the discovery of new Physics. Results from the already successfully running LHC experiments are expected to provide answers to long-standing questions related to the origin of mass as well as to the nature of dark matter and dark energy in the Universe, boosting our understanding of nature to a higher level. As a result of the project there have been outstanding advancements in several research frontiers, including new methods and computational tools for multi-particle next-to-leading order strong and electroweak corrections, novel results for multi-loop calculations, precise predictions for supersymmetric particle production at the LHC as well as studies of supersymmetric and alternative models of new Physics. The members of the network have been actively participated in all major international workshops and conferences, most of the time as part of the organisation or advisory committees and serve in many cases as conveners in working groups addressing physics issues for current high-energy experiments like LHC (CERN) and Tevatron (FERMILAB), as well as for the future experimental project of ILC. The training project has been structured both at the local and network-wide levels. The recruited researchers had the opportunity to enrol in highly regarded PhD programs running by the nodes of the network. ESR have participated in local courses and specialised training events organised by the teams of the network. Moreover a significant amount of events, mainly advanced schools, have been offered by the network including the CAPP school by DESY-ZEUTHEN, the Corfu Summer Institute by NTUA/NCSR-D, the GGI 2007 School, "Advancing Collider Physics", the Zuoz summer schools by PSI. Finally the network has organised two HEPTOOLS-schools in Torino marked by the outstanding participation of young researchers. The management of the project based on the steering committee and the local coordinators was very successful. The working of the different committees, namely the research, training and human resources committees, have been proven very efficient in coordinating and monitoring the overall progress in all aspects of the project. The setup of a web portal allowed the centralised management of applications and selection of recruited researchers, the monitoring of training and research activities, the fast and reliable exchange of information, the collection of developed computer program and computational tools. The synergy with other running network projects funded by the EU, offered a unique inter-disciplinary environment both for the research program as well as for the training and transfer of knowledge activities, targeting our recruited researchers, especially the early-stage ones. Several common activities have been successfully organised and realised, including research workshops, training events and schools. In summary HEPTOOLS proved to be a very successful project in training the researchers that will play a propagandistic role in the next decades in particle physics, and in advancing a very efficient networking structure among the main research centres in Europe.

Цел на проекта
Precise theoretical predictions are crucial for exploiting the discovery potential of the present and future high energy colliders. HEPTOOLS aims to maximize the physics gain over the next decade (1) by the development, standardization and systematization of reliable sophisticated computational tools that are easily accessible to the whole high-energy physics community, (2) by providing the precision calculations needed to match the high accuracy of forthcoming experiments and (3) by the completion of studi es related to the discovery of new particles and interactions, both directly, in the detailed analysis of multi-particle final states, and indirectly, in the investigation of quantum corrections to very precisely measurable quantities. It is vital for the longevity and prosperity of our research field that new generations of high-energy physicists are endowed with the tremendous expertise accumulated over the last 20 years. The training part of the project is well-structured. Each team has requested a carefully balanced ratio of early-stage to experienced researchers in order to maximize the training at the PhD level and the transfer of knowledge. Network-wide activities like schools and workshops are planned and carefully interlinked with the individual tea m driven training provided in more than 35 leading higher-education and research institutions spread throughout Europe. The incorporation of research groups from Russia, United States and Japan, makes HEPTOOLS a unique worldwide network project and a first step towards an international collaboration for high-energy phenomenology. The structure of the management fosters an efficient, comprehensive and economic coordination of the project. It is based around the small and flexible steering and scientific committees and the training, human resources and outreach coordinators that will ensure the implementation of a programme aimed at establishing synergies at the local, European and international level.
