Накратко на български

Генната експресия при микрочипове се анализира чрез нови алгоритми, за да се определи кога точно се активират определени биологични процеси. Това помага за по-точното разбиране на функциите на гените във времето.

Final Activity Report Summary - BRONTE (BRONTE: Biological processes Redescriptions by Ontology Expressions)

The BRONTE project performed basic research in the analysis and meta-analysis of time-course high throughput gene expression measurement experiments as produced by micro-array technology. The key driver behind the project has been the desire to provide a more temporally localised view of the biological processes in which the measured genes may be involved. The most important result of the BRONTE project has been to devise, apply and refine a number of algorithms based on kernel methods that improve on regular approaches for functional enrichment studies of gene expression experiments. The newly devised methods have been extended in order to make them applicable in the context of the analysis of time-course experiments. Finally, the newly devised methods have been tested against simpler ones based on different measures using a set of metrics derived from literature and an entropy based metric constructed for the project specific goals; these tests have proved that our methods are competitive while providing more informative results.

Цел на проекта

The project concentrates on the development of techniques for the analysis of time (and other parameters) dependent analysis of high volume biological data, e.g. micro-array experiments. The analysis thus obtained can be used to reconstruct models of various biological systems. The project ties in statistical analysis of time course data with the growing number of ontological" annotations of genes and gene products. In particular the project will target the Gene Ontology as a suitable substrate to produce descriptions of a biological system time dependent activity. As a secondary, yet very important goal, the project will provide a set of tools and techniques that can be used to confront and compare different ontologies by grounding them in the measured data of a number of wet-lab experiments."
