Final Activity Report Summary - CLIMACADEMY (EuroAcademy on Ventilation and Indor Climate)

CLIMACADEMY is a project, financially supported by Marie Curie Actions of the European Commission. The coordinating institution and organiser of all events within the project is the Centre for Research and Design in Human Comfort, Energy and Environment (CERDECEN), Technical University of Sofia, Bulgaria. Indoor environment is related to the ventilation systems, human exposure and quality of life indoor, energy efficiency and healthy buildings. It must also take into consideration the complex relationship, which exists between the technical, physical and biological characteristics of the indoor enclosures and the psychosocial and medical conditions, which affect people's health and perceptions. CLIMACADEMY courses faced different scientific, technological and socio-economic aspects of this multidisciplinary domain. Seven training courses were organised in Bulgaria, in the mountain resort of Pamporovo, namely: - Indoor air quality and thermal comfort (19 October 2006 - 27 October 2006). - Individually controlled environment (8 May 2007 - 13 May 2007). - Industrial ventilation (18 October 2007 - 26 October 2007). - Integrated analysis of building envelope and indoor environment (6 May 2008 - 11 May 2008). - CFD based design of indoor environment (16 October 2008 - 24 October 2008). - Indoor air quality and human body exposure (5 May 2009 - 10 May 2009). - Experimental assessment of indoor environment parameters (8 October 2009 - 16 October 2009). CLIMACADEMY courses were unique opportunity for young researchers and PhD students in Europe to participate in a training program on a European level. The courses covered thematically the field of indoor environment and concentrated specific knowledge from different academic and research centres. Thus the trained researchers obtained cross-European overview of the research achievements and training possibilities in different European countries. The project activities strongly supported an intensive cross-cultural exchange of experience in research and training. The scientific achievements of leading European research centres, universities and companies were widely disseminated through the participation of both lecturers and granted researchers. International consortiums for participation in the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) were established within the CLIMACADEMY network. Overall, the success of CLIMACADEMY project is expressed by the establishment of a large network of young and experienced researchers across and even outside Europe. At the end of the project CLIMACADEMY network involves 376 researchers from: - 35 nationalities from 5 continents; - 88 institutions (universities, research centres, SMEs). The statistics of the performed courses shows that: - 200 lectures were given by leading scientists, professors and researchers from Europe and United States; - 306 oral presentations were made by the granted researchers; - 7 books of proceedings were published with all lectures and extended (2 pages) abstracts of the oral presentations from each of the courses.
