Цел на проекта
Recent advances in processor and wireless technologies are allowing the emergence of small and inexpensive devices incorporating communication, processing, and sensor functionalities. These devices are commonly used for control and monitoring purposes: a large quantity of these devices is deployed in the field to create a densely distributed network of embedded signal sensors, controls and processors.In this new scenario where networks are composed of a large number of nodes, the communication and computational complexity involved in centralized architectures makes necessary the use of new distributed solutions: we need distributed ways of communicating, processing, and sensing to replace the existing centralized architectures.The goal of this project i s to investigate possible distributed solutions for sensor network problems, from signal processing issues such as detection and compression, to communication and information theory issues such as routing protocols and capacity bounds. It also aims to build a sensor network where the new communication schemes and distributed algorithms will be tested. Sensor networks have a great potential as a research tool in experimental sciences.They facilitate the acquisition, processing and interpretation of data, allowing data harvesting in scenarios of difficult access or in adverse environments, where it was not possible before. One example of this is environmental monitoring. The long-term goal of the applicant is to lead a high quality research group in t he field of sensor networks and applications.The main objective of this collaborative project is to allow the applicant to develop the complementary skills necessary to independently conduct research in the field of sensor networks.
