Цел на проекта
The research project presented aims to explore how particular human societies, i.e. Ancient Greek cities organised and represented their space. Specifically, the study concerns the organisation of places of worship at a multi-regional level in central and south Peloponnesos (Arcadia, Messenia, Laconia, Argolis), both from a material (localisation) and symbolic point of view (myths, offerings, rituals associated with places of worship).The study will be made from an interdisciplinary perspective, drawing in spiration from the concepts and models developed by the anthropology of space. Using a dynamic approach, the whole symbolic and practical relationship system in which a specific place of worship is situated will be analysed, and its space of meaning" considered independently of modern-day spatial categories. The research will mainly focus on places of worship at "interstitial" or border spaces, that only a multi-regional study can examine in context.The research objectives will be completed through the following complementary steps:- recording in a data base of the places of worship in the chosen area and archaeological information about them;- drawing of thematic maps based on the information collected;- analysis of the spatial configuration of t he places of worship assisted by the models and concepts developed by the anthropology of space.The project will contribute to developing new scientific and technical tools to study space in ancient Greece and therefore to consolidating the leadership of European research in the anthropological history of ancient Greece. It will give researchers the opportunity to gain new scientific and technical competencies in an innovative interdisciplinary field. The project also aims to initiate extensive internation al collaboration helping to structure the European Research Area."
