Цел на проекта
The main goal of this project is to develop innovative technologies to enhance growth and survival of diverse bacterial communities capable of degrading complex industrial wastes, in bioreactors designed for that purpose. We will focus on the microbial ecology of complex waste streams generated by the chemical industry, and will place emphasis on means to enable efficient and secured application of biological processes.Three different methods to increase biomass preservation in bioreactors will be tested and compared (namely, encapsulation, immobilization, and enhanced bio-flocculation and co-flocculation). The transfer of knowledge in this project involves the collaboration of two intellectual properties and know-how, one academic (BGU, Israel) and one SME (BIOCONS, Germany). It will be based on continuous cooperation and knowledge transfer between the two senior Israeli partners and the German senior partner. A dedicated researcher (post-doc) will be recruited by the Israeli partner to strengthen the connection by frequent travels between the two locations.The project is aimed at solving a major problem faced by many EC member states or associated states. BIOCONS will gain unique practical knowledge based on deep scientific and analytical tools. This will enable application of superior technologies to prevent ecological damage and health hazards. Since the EU views the accumulation of wastes in the environment as a major threat to future developments, the knowledge produced and transferred through the current project will contribute directly to the concept of sustainable development.
