The project The Researchers' Night 2006 in the Czech Republic" is part of European initiative which aims at presenting researchers and their scientific activities to broad public.The main objectives are- to present research profession as an attractive one and to convince more young people to embark on career in research and development, and- to facilitate the communication between researchers and a large public in the country capital and some other cities.These objectives will be achieved by various events in which researchers and their actual activities will be presented in laboratories and other suitable sites, and by which the broad public will have an opportunity to get in touch with scientific problems and other issues the researchers are actually dealing with.Public attendees will be also shown specific equipment normally not accessible to them, and demonstrated its function in specific fields of research. Researchers will Researchers will also be presented in unusual roles (musicians, painters, photographers) and in some unusual environments. By showing researchers in that way, i.e., as common citizens with different interests, the large public should gain more confidence in research, too.The events will be held on September 22, 2006 in various parts of the Czech Republic, including the country's capital Prague, and the cities of Brno, Ceske Budejovice, and Ostrava. In Prague presentations of research activities will be conducted in the National Museum, Institute of Chemical Technology, Institute of Sociology. In Ceske Budejovice, a multicultural event with concerts, exhibitions and movie presentations will take place.In Brno, scientists from the Faculty of Chemistry of the Brno University of Technology, will present their research activities. In the public observatories of the Czech Astronomical Society located throughout the country, the public will be offered an opportunity to peer into the deep universe."
