Final Activity Report Summary - NANOMEMCOURSE (Training Course on Nanostructured Materials for Advanced Membrane processes)
During this project, five advanced courses on nanostructured materials have been organised in five different countries: Spain (Zaragoza), Greece (Patras), Norway (Oslo), The Netherlands (Enschede) and Italy (Rende), the coordination being by a French partner (CNRS-Toulouse). The topical contents of the course went from the fundamentals of material preparation, characterization and modelling and multiscale simulation. Then three more courses focused on applications of such nanostructured materials to Energy, Health, Water and Food issues. In most cases, membrane material and processes were the dominant topics covered by the lectures. A total of over 100 keynote speakers could be invited to deliver lectures, either on fundamentals and academic questions, or on industrial challenges. Non-scientific topics such as English as technical language, project management, structure of the European programmes, as well as collaborative projects discussed amongst the participants took a significant share of the time. A total of over 3000 days of high standard training have been provided to young scientists from 36 different countries. More than 300 participants received a grant to cover their registration and accommodation, as well as part of their travel expenses. Our intention was to have more than 40% of female participants, and the final proportion is close to 44%. Some fellows from overseas such as Australia, Argentina, the USA or Singapore mixed with European delegates, thus offering an interesting opportunity to create a truly international group of young experts.

Цел на проекта
Major efforts are deployed by the international scientific community to reach a high knowledge and control of the nanostructured material functions and processes. In Europe, leading research organisations have joined their potential in the NanoMemPro Network of Excellence, and have demonstrated the need to focus European research in modelling synthesis, characterisation of the nanostructured materials under the form of membranes aiming at various kinds of applications, notably for a faster taking-up of the results by the industry. The NanoMemCourse project aims at training young researchers on these topics, at strengthening the links between science and industry and at setting up the basis of a truly European community of those scientists who will work together in the future. This should lead to a significant step forward in the structuring of the European research in the nanostructured material field. The project is based on a series of five training courses organised by six scientific partners, members of the NoE, on nanostructured material fundamentals and on three major applications for the future: energy, health and food. The objective is to have 300 young researchers from different EU Member and Associated States trained by more than 80 leading scientists and industrial personalities from Europe and overseas. The training method based on alternated lectures, conferences and practical courses, with hands-on materials, processes and analytical tools, and in situ observation of field cases, will offer a coherent series of topics from fundamental research to technology and industrial applications, including complementary skills such as knowledge management and technology transfer. What makes this course special is also the proposed sessions on the worldwide situation of each topic, the young researchers¿ forum, and the synchronisation of the national research programmes.
