Накратко на български
Концентрацията на твърди частици във въздуха и озона се измерват на различни места, като например в изследователска станция на Крит и в завод за detergents. Данните помагат да се разбере каке е излагането на хората на тези частици и как те влияят на организма.

Final Activity Report Summary - PM-DOSE (Human exposure to particulate matter and source-to-internal dose relationships)
Measurements - Continuous outdoor measurements at Akrotiri research station (TUC Crete campus): - continuous meteorological data measurements (temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction); -particulate matter (PM10 or PM2.5) concentration measurements using automatic beta radiation attenuation monitor - continuous sampling of atmospheric ozone with ambient ozone monitor. - Results of PM10 and PM2.5 levels in the Eastern Mediterranean and their seasonal variations have been published in journal water, air and soil pollution and at the conference PRE8. - Comparative measurement campaigns with various PM instruments at Akrotiri research station: - meteorological data measurements; - measurements of atmospheric ozone with ambient ozone monitor; - PM10 comparative measurement with automatic beta radiation attenuation monitor and low volume sequential particulate sampler and low volume reference sampler. - Results of comparative measurement have been published in journal water, air and soil pollution. - Measurement campaign at Akrotiri research station with off-line and on-line instruments: - meteorological data measurements; - measurements of atmospheric ozone with ambient ozone monitor; - PM2.5 measurement with automatic beta radiation attenuation monitor; - PM10 measurements with sequential particulate sampler and reference sampler; - particle number size distribution measurements with Andersen impactor - gravimetric, SMPS (CPC + LONG DMA) and FCE (with SHORT DMA) - online particle counters. - Two measurement campaigns in a detergent factory at the Athens metropolitan area - cooperation with Demokritos Research Centre (Athens): - measurements of PM in production hall of detergent factory in Athens (the periods of production, the periods of maintenance and the time without any activities) using two real-time photometric monitors Dusttrak, Andersen non-viable impactor, Berner impactor, PM2.5 virtual impactor head, sequential particulate sampler with PM10 head, Dataram4, PDR1200, PDR1000. - Results were published at the conference PRE8 and in the journal water, air and soil pollution. Focus - measurement of simulated indoor sources: - indoor and outdoor PM measurement using Dusttrak and P-Tra; - measurement of particle size distribution with Scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS) and Faraday cup electrometer (FCE); - continuous monitoring of indoor conditions (temperature and relative humidity) using Tinytag instrument. - Results were published at the conference EAC2007. Data analysis: - statistical analysis for all the collected data sets; - analysis of PM entering human respiratory system for outdoor measurements and indoor measurements with simulated indoor sources. Modelling: - cooperation with PhD students on improvement of the AEROEXPDOSE model for calculation of respiratory tract doses of aerosol particles in human body; - development and improvement of algorithm for merging aerosol particle size distribution (AMANpsd) data from multiple instruments (SMPS, nano-SMPS and APS); - code for rearrangement of output data from FCE; - code for calculation of penetration efficiencies of sampled particle through sampling tubing.

Цел на проекта
The objective of the proposed Marie Curie action is the understanding of the particulate matter (PM) transport into the human body and the quantification of the internally PM deposited regional dose in the human respiratory tract, and the consequent transport into the human organs. In addition, another objective is the understanding of the formation, accumulation, fate and effects of ozone, other photochemical oxidants and fine particulate matter in the southern-eastern part of the Mediterranean area. The specific objectives of the proposed Marie Curie action are to link human exposure to particulate matter with physiologically based mechanistic dosimetry, clearance and transfer inside the human body models. The mechanistic respiratory dosimetry model which is in use at the Technical University of Crete (Lazaridis et al., 2001) for particulate matter will be further improved with the addition of state-of-the-science modelling tools of particulate matter clearance inside the human respiratory track an transport into the blood, the regional lymph nodes and the gastrointestinal part. Furthermore, other specific objectives include the measurements of gaseous and aerosol species in the eastern part of the Mediterranean area.
