Final Activity Report Summary - DIELPOL (Dielectric spectroscopy and complementary techniques for molecular dynamic study of polymers and organic crystals)
The main aim of the DIELPOL project was to increase the competences of the researchers and PhD students of the Technical University of Lodz (TUL) in the field of broadband dielectric spectroscopy (BDS) and complementary techniques (dynamical mechanical analysis - DMA, differential scanning calorimetry - DSC, Raman spectroscopy, etc.). The participants of the project gained the knowledge in frame of periodically organized open seminars. Eight foreign specialists gave thirty third lectures covering broad spectrum of problems, from theoretical background, data analysis and interpretation up to application of BDS and complementary techniques to study different systems and phenomena (liquid crystals, polymer solutions, hydrogels, semiconductors, curable epoxy resins and others). The practical training at TUL as well as at partner organization (Universite Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (UCBL), University of Leipzig (UL), Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science (MPS), National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) ) was the crucial part of the project. Nine people from TUL in frame of fifteen stages improved their practical experiences caring out their experiments and discussed with leading specialists in BDS, DMA, DSC and other complementary techniques. Additionally practical training on BDS for some researchers as well as PhD students at TUL was performed. Visiting TUL scientists were involved in current investigations helped to plan and to perform experiments, supported analysis and interpretations of obtained results, eliminated artifacts and technical problems. In this field elaboration of the procedures (methodology) for dielectric measurements of liquids or gel-like materials in high frequency region should be regarded as great success. In February 2009 Workshop on Progress in Bio- and Nanotechnology was organised. It was dedicated to sum up the cooperation in frame of the DIELPOL project and to review the latest achievements in the field of organic electronics. The main topics of this workshop covered: BDS and Raman spectroscopy of nanostructured polymers, and advanced applications of nanostructured polymers (opto-electronics, medicine, biolology etc.). One of the sections was dedicated to molecular dynamics and different techniques of its investigation (BDS, DMA, computations and so on). Detailed schedule of this section was attached to Annual Report. The oral contributions were delivered by TUL researchers as well as by the foreign scientists contracted in frame of DIELPOL project and from partner institutions. The rational effects of the DIELPOL project are the articles and the conference contributions prepared by beneficiaries. The main topics of scientific activities are: 1. Investigations of molecular dynamics and molecular motions in different polymers by BDS, DMA and computer simulations; 2. Characterisation of organic materials for optoelectronic devices crucially an influence of nanoparticles or other dopants on molecular dynamic of polymer matrix; 3. Studies on the dynamics and phase transitions in curable liquid crystalline epoxy resins; 4. Monitoring of curing processes; 5. Relationships between structure, intermolecular interactions and molecular dynamics in polymer hydrogels; 6. Changes of molecular dynamics during the phase transitions in stimuli responsive hydrogels. The very important result of DIELPOL project is the scientific collaboration with different Institutions. Bilateral collaboration is already established and continued with all DIELPOL partners.

Цел на проекта
The proposed knowledge transfer aims to increase the competences of the researchers and PhD students at TUL in the field of broadband dielectric spectroscopy and their abilities to work with other complementary techniques, like dynamic mechanical analysis, computing techniques, low-frequency Raman spectroscopy, modulated DSC, which allow to study molecular relaxations and transitions in organic and polymer materials. This should result in more effective use of the equipment available at TUL and give theoretical and methodological backgrounds for more deep interpretation of the experimental results. The objectives will be implemented by two ways: recruitment of external experienced researchers and training of own staff in partner organisations. The training visits at partner organisations will give an access to the most advanced experimental techniques used for investigations of molecular dynamics in polymers and organic crystals.Characterisation of molecular dynamics in polymers is necessary for understanding the structure/properties relationships in modern materials such as semiconducting polymers for opto-electonic applications, nanogels, hyperbranched polymers, liquid crystals materials, which are currently investigated at TUL in a frame of European and national projects. Establishing of long-term co-operation with the scientific centres equipped with modern apparatus not accessible in Poland, and with the high experience staff will help in preparation and realisation of the common projects in the field of material engineering.
