Накратко на български
Квантовата динамика на атоми и молекули се изследва чрез управлението им със светлина, например при създаване на суперпозиции от квантови състояния. Това помага за развитието на нови методи в квантовите изчисления и обработката на информация.

Final Activity Report Summary - CAMEL (Control of quantum dynamics of atoms, molecules and ensembles by light)
This project provided an invaluable support for the establishment of a very active and already internationally recognised strong research group in the field of quantum optics and quantum information at the Department of Physics of Sofia University. In the beginning of the project the group was composed of just the group leader and three young doctoral students. Largely because of visibility the group gained from this project six more doctoral students, which were recruited among the best local students, and also some prominent local young researchers who joined the group. Towards the end of the project the group consisted of over 10 members. The group members delivered 54 outgoing training months in partner labs, i.e. 12 outgoing highly experienced researchers (MER) and 42 outgoing experienced researchers (ER) months. Within this project there were 10 incoming ER and MER for 69 months in total, including 4 incoming MER for 24 months and 6 incoming ER for 45 months. Their presence changed considerably the local environment and made a significant impression on the local researchers. The scientific output of this project, as measured by the 60 published and 16 submitted papers in the best international journals was largely without precedent for a local group of this size. The scientific research was pursued in all seven tasks of the project, namely: 1. preparation and manipulation of quantum states of single particles 2. creation and tomography of superpositions of quantum states 3. decoherence and dissipation 4. ultrafast quantum dynamics 5. atomic ensembles 6. collective many-particle states 7. controlled production of few photon quantum states. As a result of the incoming and outgoing visits, new expertise was developed in the host group in the fields of quantum computing with trapped ions, quantum dots and atoms in cavities, the theory of open quantum systems and in fluctuational electrodynamics and multiple scattering theory. The achievements of this project and the participating researchers were recognised by four major national prizes, including the national prizes for doctoral supervisor and best young scientist, and two awards of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for scientific achievements. Benefitting from the experience acquired within this project, the group was successful in getting support for several other subsequent projects, i.e. two European Community projects from the Sixth Framework Programme, namely RTNetwork EMALI, and the Seventh Framework Programme, namely FastQuast, and three large projects from the Bulgarian National Science Fund.

Цел на проекта
This project aims to develop general techniques for preparation, manipulation and measurement of quantum states of matter and light for systems of various complexity and many degrees of freedom, ranging from simple qubits to multilevel systems, and from single-particle to entangled many-particle states in large ensembles. The emphasis lies on the universal applicability of these techniques to a variety of systems in the fields of quantum optics, quantum information, adiabatic population transfer, matter-wave interferometry, femtosecond physics, ion trap systems, Bose-Einstein condensation, and quantum dots. The methods of laser control of atoms, molecules, ions and ensembles will use adiabatic and resonant interactions, coherent control, measurement-based feedback approaches and optimisation strategies to engineer specific quantum states of matter and also to transfer such states to and from the coherent light field. The project will combine the experimental and theoretical expertise of eight leading partner groups to establish, through training and transfer of knowledge and development of new areas of competence, a highly competitive research group in Bulgaria, at the cutting edge of research in laser-matter interactions. The project objectives will be achieved by the following complementary actions:- recruitment of very experienced foreign researchers, who will be invited to present lecture courses on advanced topics, thus delivering transfer of knowledge at very high levels;- recruitment of experienced foreign researchers who will carry out research in collaboration with the local researchers, thus delivering more direct transfer of knowledge;- outgoing visits of experienced and more experienced local researchers to the partner groups to get training and transfer of knowledge in specific skills and technique in order to benefit to the largest extent from the expertise of the partners and to develop research areas of new competence of the host group.
