Накратко на български
Мезенхималните стволови клетки се изследват в различни възпалителни среди, за да се разбере как се развиват след имплантиране с полимерна основа. Това помага за подобряване на регенерацията на тъкани и органи при заболявания и наранявания.

Final Activity Report Summary - MeStells (Phenotypic differentiation of mesenchymal progenitor cells within differential inflammatory environments)
The field of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering is rapidly emerging and aims at achieving the regeneration of tissues and organs for the treatment of disease and injury. One major concept in this field is the surgical implantation of cells, either from the patient or from another donor, along with the simultaneous implantation of a custom polymer scaffold which is designed to repair the function of the injured tissue and induce its regeneration. However, the fate of these implanted cells is often uncontrolled and generally unknown. In addition, cells from the patient penetrating the implant are anticipated to react to the implant. The aim of the present study was to understand how different inflammatory responses controlled the development of these implanted cells, including their proliferation and differentiation.

Цел на проекта
Quality of life is very important in the context of European policy objectives. The anticipation of life expectancy and improved quality of life amongst younger Europeans, combined with an ageing population and associated increasing healthcare cost burden on society, means that new, cost-effective and efficacious medical treatments are required. In this context, Tissue Engineering (TE) has the potential to save lives, relieve suffering and meet the improved quality of life expectations.TE is a rapidly emerging collection of technologies aimed at the regeneration of tissues and organs for the treatment of disease and injury. Advances in basic biology as well as in material science provide us with great progress in the biomedical field. TE strategies together with the advances in mesenchymal stem cells knowledge represent a very promising combination.
