Hungarian support programme for improving the transnational mobility of researchers

The TRANSMOB-HU was a complex programme co-funded by FP7 for supporting researchers' career development through their international mobility (2009-2014). One of the strategic goals was the improvement of human resources of R&D and innovation with the help of supporting training of researchers through participating in international cooperation projects, by means of international mobility of researchers and by facilitating their reintegration after spending considerable time abroad. The programme covered the following 3 activity areas: A./ Outgoing mobility scheme: The scheme was open for those Hungarian experienced researchers, who aimed to enlarge their specialised knowledge through the execution of research projects at outstanding international research sites. In the frame of the support scheme maximum 2 years of basic or applied research was funded. Part of the funded period could be spent reintegrated to the Hungarian host institute. B./ Incoming mobility scheme: The scheme was open for those non-Hungarian experienced researchers, who were nationals of an EU Member State, Associated county or a Third country, who aimed to expand their specialized knowledge through the execution of research projects at outstanding international research sites. In the frame of the support scheme, maximum 2 years of basic or applied research was funded. C./ Reintegration scheme: The scheme was open for those experienced researchers, who aimed to form research units in Hungary, who were nationals of an EU Member State or an Associated country and who lived for at least 36 months in a Third country prior to the submission of the proposal. In the frame of this support scheme, maximum 2 -3 years of basic or applied research was funded, which helped researchers to found the basis of a long-term research work at the host institute. The coordinator of the TRANSMOB-HU FP7 project (and of the programme) was the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (former: National Office for Research and Technology). Altogether there was 1 call with 3 cut-offs published in the frame of the TRANSMOB-HU programme. The programme was based on bottom-up approach: the call was open for all scientific areas, such as life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities. Eventually, TRANSMOB-HU resulted in 48 Grant Agreements: 32 outgoing, 8 incoming and 8 reintegration fellowships. The project funded 94,5 fellow-years as a total: 55,5 for the outgoing scheme, 24,5 for the incoming scheme and 14,5 fellow-years for the reintegration scheme. We believe that our COFUND programme could efficiently contribute to the diverse career-development of researchers, successful applications for other high level national or international fellowships, fostering international and inter-sectoral research collaboration, enhancing brain-circulation as well as to the wide-range application of the European Charter and Code of Conduct for Mobility principles.
