Накратко на български

Микровълнови устройства и антени се разработват така, че да бъдат по-малки и да работят в няколко честотни диапазона едновременно. Това помага за по-ефективното използване на ограничените радиочестоти в безжичните комуникации.

Multiband Electronically Reconfigurable Microwave Devices and Antennas for a New Generation of Wireless Systems

Objective: To expand the capacity of the participating institutions to progress in research, to communicate across disciplines, and to create a critical mass of researchers and knowledge needed for important scientific breakthroughs. Tools: - A cohesive research- and education-oriented network in the interdisciplinary fields of advanced technologies, artificial EM materials, complex geometries, and application-oriented design. - A coordinated multiannual joint research programme between European and non-European research institutions. Research challenge: Wireless communications are omnipresent, yet frequencies are scarce. Research approach: Exploit complementarities and synergies between various technologies: conventional, ferroelectric, superconducting, fractal, metamaterial. Expected results: Three main types of microwave devices redesigned for small size, improved functionality and multiband operation: filters, antennas, and couplers and shifters. Impact on ERA: - Transfer of specific knowledge into Europe - Reduction of fragmentation of research - Inter- and intra-country cooperation - Systematic and frequent reformulation of the problems - Cohesive experimental and theoretical approach Impact on the society as large: - Experience of excellence - Reward for complementarity - Potential creation of new employments - Inter-cultural exchange - Gender balance

Цел на проекта

This project aims at establishing new partnerships and reinforcing already existing ones between two European and three non-European research institutions, through a structured programme of exchange of researchers and coordinated multiannual joint research programme in the field of multiband electronically reconfigurable microwave devices and antennas. The participating institutions from Serbia, United Kingdom, Russia, South Africa and USA, chosen for the diversity in their respective expertise and research approaches, are recognized world-wide as leaders in research and innovation. The wide scope and depth of the knowledge accumulated in the consortium offers a unique opportunity for exchanged researchers to undertake cutting-edge research under mentorship of experienced senior researchers. The main technical goal of the joint research programme is to encourage the application of emerging technologies and result in the development of low-cost miniature tunable and reconfigurable microwave devices and antennas for future multifunctional wireless systems. Main research targets are: - Development of compact microwave devices and antennas with multiple functionalities, - Development and applications of novel artificially structured materials like metamaterials, controllable electromagnetic band gap materials, nano-foam materials and reconfigurable metamaterials, - Applications of fractal curves in the design of compact and multiband devices due to their inherent multimode operation, - Development of computationally efficient electromagnetic analysis and optimization tools for multiband reconfigurable devices, - Development of low-cost microfabrication techniques using multi-layer technology (LTCC and Thick-Film), ferroelectrics and superconducting technologies.
